Season dossier
The Dossier
One player, one season, one page — read the way a club reads him. Five style bands scored against positional peers, the season shot map, the eight players he most resembles, where he lines up and where he actually lives. Erling Haaland's 2025/26 condenses to 27 goals off 25.8 non-penalty xG.
Reading the dossier
Playing style compresses a role into five bands. Each row is a composite of per-90 ingredients, percentiled against every Big-5 player in the same style set — which is not always the position group: central midfielders and defensive midfielders are banded as one pool of 334, because the five style rows are the same for both. Quintiles follow: five filled boxes mean the top fifth of the cohort, one box the bottom fifth. The metric set changes with the job — a forward is banded on goal and box threat, a midfielder on involvement, press resistance and front-foot defending. Rows marked * lean on proxy ingredients where tracking data would be needed; the notes say which.
The map panel adapts to the player. Forwards get the season shot map (dot area is the shot's xG, red dots scored). Creators get the end locations of the shots they set up — assisted shots in our shot log, with honest xA and assist totals. Everyone else gets a territory read: the share of their recorded touches by pitch zone.
Similar players ranks profile similarity (cosine similarity of the full z-scored per-90 profile, 100 = statistically near-identical) — click a bar to open that player's dossier. Positions played sizes each bubble by share of appearances. The heatmap is a density surface over every recorded touch location this season — all play, not open-play only, because the source feed does not separate them.
Notes & caveats
1 Style percentiles are within the style-set pool (central and defensive midfielders share one MID set) and not possession-adjusted; defensive bands favour players on lower-possession sides.
2 The chances-created map plots the end locations of assisted shots from the Understat shot log; key passes without a resulting shot in the log are not drawn. Totals (xA, assists) are season-true.
3 The heatmap covers all recorded touches — set pieces included — because the source feed does not flag open play.
4 Minutes share uses the team's total league minutes; a player traded mid-season shows the share at his current club only.
